(sorry in advance to those more enlightened - this IS NOT an intention to talk down to your intelligence, but, rather an attempt to connect to ALL the "11 of 12", they may be very young or old? & speak in other languages etc..).
Take a piece of
blank paper to start
your KEY for
the VMS Paper Folding
Now just ENVISION or
~SEE~ two (2) _folding_ lines
down the page
These should be equal for your piece of paper (any size).
NOW, Left to right,
we can NAME them _Anything_?, I
chose 1,2,3 ok? OK !
OK - NOW, on to the folding(s) for your VMS "KEY"...
ENVISION or ~SEE~ a CENTER LINE of the paper. We will _FOLD_ #1 to just
cover the LEFT 1/2 of the #2 etc.. (CENTER)
THIS 1st FOLD, *IS Important* to
note: as you will SEE / ~Sense~ the LEFT HAND SIDE of the columns KEY (pillars?
/ gallows?) etc.
Like
this: See the LEFT HAND ~Blue~ "COLUMN" / Piller / Fold??
OK -
NOW, continuing the folding(s) for your VMS "KEY"...
ENVISION or ~SEE~ a
CENTER LINE of the paper. We will _FOLD_ #3 to just cover the RIGHT 1/2 of the
#2 etc.. (CENTER)
THIS 2nd FOLD, *IS Important* to note, as you will SEE /
~Sense~ the RIGHT HAND SIDE of the "COLUMN"'s KEY (pillars? / gallows?) etc.
Maybe you ~SEE~ part of it? BUT, the original VMS CODER - is
gonna _FOLD_ it the other way ALSO, (TOP down, and c_c (bottom UP to the new
CENTER of the paper)), so, don't jump the gun here yet.. so far, we just have
our "COLUMNS" now : 1 & 3. OK? Let's continue..
~Flatten your Paper HERE, (+ above) you can (Hopefully)
~SEE~ the "COLUMNS" of the KEY
Do you see 2 columns? Good, Let's continue
then.
In scribing 'VOYNICHese' or 'BACONese' (whomever), we see
our two (2) COLUMNS!
NOW, we can _fold_ our TOP 1/3rd of our "Column(s)" KEY down! (My wife says "IT's 1/4'rds" *BoNk* another slap up the side of my head *Ouch* - I'm going with "ES" here (ha.haaa) (just kidding again, BUT, Fold your TOP of the paper DOWN to the "NEW" CENTER like this.))
YEA! We have the _START_ of Your (THE) VMS KEY here _NOW!_
CAN YOU ~SEE~ IT NOW? The _TOP_ FOLDing?
Below: I will show you the LEFT
& RIGHT 'corners' etc.. (3x3)
For no other reason then this is MY VMS page, I elect to
name this BEGINNING area "A". So, It will look like this now. You should have a
BLANK piece of paper folded (COLUMNS) and TOP (1/3rd folded down) and you can
insert (ADD an "A" to this FOLD).
YOU are 1/2 way home now !! Way to go!!
NOW, Let's FOLD the Bottom section UP and GET THE WHOLE "KEY" (*NOTE* this ISN'T how it's _READ_, (per ES), BUT, how the DECODING goes! At no time should you find TOP seeing (touching/fold wise) the BOTTOM etc. When we have a C_C character(s), WE just 'REVERSE' the paper (KEY) - Flip it 180 degrees - OK? (Don't Flip IT yet, just note the RED bottom or (Bottom) of paper now.
For no other reason then this is MY VMS page, I elect to name this SECOND FOLD area "B". So, it should look like this now. You should have your paper folded with 'COLUMNS' and the TOP ~Folded~ and marked "A" . The NEW BOTTOM UP (c_C) FOLDed area is now "B" - ok?
FOLD the (Red) BOTTOM 1/3rd UP now, (to the CENTER LINE) to
complete the DECODING AREA.
*NOTE* the "C_C" ~shape~ folding here
THIS Folding (_B_ottom(s) UP) is equal to THIS Voynich'ese,
(Bacon'ese) Whomever, SYMBOL here. BOTH UP & DOWN
YEA !! You HAVE now the ~FOLDING (Folded) KEY~ in front of you - but, how to use it? Well, according to "ES" "3x3" (and MIRROR! - man, this guy was ~nuttier~ (talk about medieval scientist) than I am (ha.haaa)
OK: lets check our base(s) here - UNFOLD - your Paper (ALL the way) you
should have the letter "A" and the letter "B" written like this on your piece of
paper sitting before you: ("UPside down is EXPECTED in the (red) C_C area's")
Same? OK? - NOW, _reFOLD_ (as above and let's continue)
Fold LEFT side
column, RIGHT side column, TOP down, Bottom UP (AB) etc.
so you have THIS (AB ~Fold~) again

Now, UNFOLD the "B" section
THIS is our START
Remember? THIS one is just TOP FOLDED ~over~ columns =
"A" which is EQUAL in ENGLISH to "MY" (_A_ b,c,d,e,f,g,h)

Follow the RED (colored) circles NOW: (or SHADED circles if you have a black
& white Printer etc. "THEY" are on the column(s) now)

to CODE then RECODE? how How HOW?? -
s/he ~FOLDED~, then ~cleverly~ wrote in MIRROR images OR thought Backwards to
~COMPOUND~ the code!!! Never to be read until TIME! (ES ~said~ the TIME is now!)

BEFORE I show you that ~UNfold_ING~, NOTE!: YOU should _NEVER_ see the reverse of THIS folding key without a "HIKE/Shift" or Changing of characters (ref:RED (B) )bottom) reverse paper KEY)
For EXAMPLE: And, I haven't ~seen much of the VMS todate:~

Personally, I think the ORIGINAL AUTHOR _was RIGHT HANDED_ (and LEFT brained?)
What the Author intended (per ES) was to (go TOP 1,2,3,4 THEN Bottom 5,6,7,8) FOLD
as in: here we go " UNFOLDING " A to go back to just our columns.... But how
to ~point~ to just the RIGHT side: _UP there_ on the columns? well, follow the
"RED" (loops) or circles THIS
(red) Unfolded "A" POINTS to the UPPER RIGHT ~nicely~ - eh?? GET - IT? GOT - IT?

What shall we call call this in English? We've USED up "AB", so I Elect "C"
so now you can put a "C" in this UPper RIGHT position - ok? OK.
like so: we now have "AB"+ "C" (ABC)
Here, we ~SEE~ UNFOLDed Left hand side with this (go back to
the LEFT side of folding) "character pointing to it" (see it?) I will call this
"D"
HERE, We see "FOLDED" Back to our START position, red tops,
pointing to the LEFT hand COLUMN. I will call this (LEFT) mid-column AREA "E"
So, now your "Folding Paper KEY" UNFOLDED should look like this:
like so: we now have (ABCDE) ok?
Actually _B_ is the other key "c_c", but we have it now.
Here comes (what I call) a HIKE/SHIFT (below)
It's EASY though.. Just
rotate the "A KEY" so you now have the "B KEY" on the TOP
NOTE here, that the "ACDE" figures = EQUAL = the "BFGH" figures with only the ADDITION of the "C_C" (roll bottom up figure) added ... (which means to flip or rotate your paper folded KEY you have now 180 degrees).
Overall we're looking at " A (B) C D E (F)(G)(H)" or 8 seperate AREA'S to add whatever you would like to have CODED... (DECODED) (3x3?)
So just copy the same areas as ABOVE (1234 or ACDE) and repeat for 5678 or BFGH as:

We'll call this area "F"
We'll call this area "G"
We'll call this area "H"
So, our COMPLETED _UN_folded KEY should look like this now!

Now, _What_ you write in these: "A(B)CDE(FGH)" _AREAS_ of this FOLDing "KEY" : and in what language (ES said I "won't be able to read IT" (so I assume it IS NOT "English") is up to you DECODERS out there)).... I got the ~feeling~ that you could Write IN anything (letters, numbers, Formulas, COMPLETE words even) if that can help?.. it is now out of my hands now, EXCEPT to remind you to "THINK" or ~SEE~ MIRROR IMAGE !!!!!!!
note: "MIRROR": That is 2nd KEY? Procedure? Step? CLUE?
I DO NOT think
this _AB_ "rotate/flip" is _The "ES Mirror!"_
I believe ES meant the other
"characters" were just (only) written in reverse or mirrored image(s).. etc..
